R. Lee Ermey, Golden Globe Nominee for 'Full Metal Jacket,' Dies at 74
The news was announced via his official Twitter account, by his longtime manager.
R. Lee Ermey, a Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for his role as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, has died.
Ermey, whose nickname was "The Gunny," died Sunday morning from complications of pneumonia. He was 74.
Ermey not only played a Marine in the movies, but he also was one in real life, having been a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant and an honorary gunnery sergeant. He also served as a drill instructor for the Marines. Ermey served 14 months in Vietnam and completed two tours in Okinawa, Japan.

The MEA invites you to attend an all ranks, Professional Networking Luncheon at the Clubs Complex at MCB Quantico, Va. We suggest participants arrive 15 - 20 minutes early for networking. All Marines planning transition, former Marines, and Marine friendly business contacts are welcome to attend.

The Marine Executive Association (MEA) is a national volunteer, non-profit organization of Marines who provide assistance in the career transition process to Marines transitioning from active or reserve to retired status; leaving the Corps at the end of tour; or moving from one civilian position to another. In addition to networking lunches we work closely with the Transition Assistance offices at Henderson Hall and MCB Quantico.
