The GI Bill can be utilized throughout the Maryland State Police Academy, field training, and through the 16 month probationary period to follow. The Maryland State Police has extended our benefits from the normal eight months; encompassing the academy and field training throughout the entirety of the probationary period. This extended time frame is something not offered by numerous law enforcement agencies. The percentage of Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is currently broken down by the following;
Academy - defined as non-degree program - 100% benefit
FTT - resets as new program - 100% benefit
Rest of probation - becomes on the job training - 100% for 6 months, 80% for 6 months, 60% for remainder
Also a book stipend is included at the beginning of each submission.
